How I Work

‘‘And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.’’

- Anais Nin

There may be a number of reasons why you are considering therapy - discontentment, a lack of meaning, emotional pain. Whatever they may be, I offer a warm, confidential and supportive space where you will be listened to with deep empathy and respect.

The healing journey is about bringing warmth, light and consciousness to the areas of the psyche that have been kept out of sight, and have therefore needed to express themselves by becoming symptomatic. This alchemical process facilitates increased self-acceptance and internal peace, and a deeper connection with yourself.

I believe the true destination of any therapeutic journey, beyond simply becoming ‘symptom free’, is to develop and embrace a life of depth, connection and meaning.

I am experienced with a wide range of life experiences and challenges, and am well versed in the field of 12 step recovery, having worked in a 12 step treatment facility and completing a PhD focusing on this profound path. My areas of expertise include: addiction, depression, anxiety, relational issues and complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), alongside psychedelic journey preparation and integration.

My approach integrates Eastern and Western psychological orientations. I work predominantly with the therapeutic application of Internal Family Systems and the PIT trauma reduction method to deliver innovative and effective one-to-one therapy, emphasising a heart-centred, holistic process.

Sessions are usually weekly, one hour in duration and are client-led in terms of the focus, aims and content. Where appropriate, I may gently question perceptions and patterns, or encourage the exploration of specific topics.

Information on Therapeutic Approaches

  • Internal Family Systems is a transformative and evidence-based method. It is founded on the understanding that our feelings and behaviors do not define us, but rather certain ‘parts’ of us drive our actions and behaviors in the world in order to protect our more vulnerable parts from further hurt or harm. This can cause difficulties if the behaviors or protective patterns become extreme or rigid.

IFS helps foster understanding and compassion towards your behavior and how you feel, and releases outdated and unhelpful beliefs and ways of being.

  • Post Induction Therapy is a hugely impactful methodology for healing traumatic wounds.

Relational trauma (whether physical, sexual, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, or to do with abandonment/neglect) often results in anger, depression, feelings of worthlessness, and/or addictive tendencies.

This model is based on addressing and healing the five core symptoms which are often present in people facing mental health and addiction challenges. These are difficulties with:

    • self esteem

    • interpersonal boundaries

    • owning your own reality

    • meeting your needs and wants

    • challenges with expressing and experiencing your reality moderately.

PIT facilitates the healing of these traumatic wounds, breaking through barriers that obstruct growth, supporting clients in regulating their emotions as well as fully developing their gifts.

  • ‘‘Integration is a process in which a person revisits and actively engages in making sense of, working through, translating, and processing the content of their psychedelic experience. Through intentional effort and supportive practices, this process allows one to gradually capture and incorporate the emergent lessons and insights into their lives, thus moving toward greater balance and wholeness, both internally (mind, body, and spirit) and externally (lifestyle, social relations, and the natural world)’’ - Bathje, Majeski & Mesphina Kudowor 2022

Preparing for and integrating psychedelic healing journeys with professional support optimises, enriches and brings increased safety to what can be pivotal and life-changing experiences.

Whether through plant medicines or holotrophic breath-work, altered states of consciousness unveil hidden facets of ourselves, and offer a dynamic way of facilitating ongoing healing.

Internal Family Systems, whilst being a powerful standalone therapy, complements the transformative psychedelic process, both in the preparation and integration phases.
